Bungie Final Destiny 2 Patches: What Came After 9.7.0.3

Search for Bungie's final Destiny 2 patches and nearly every result names Update 9.7.0.3 as the last one the game will ever receive. That was accurate on July 7. It stopped being accurate on July 28. If you're using those posts to work out what has actually changed in your game, you're reading a picture that's a month stale.

The short answer: 9.7.0.3 was not the last patch

Update 9.7.0.4 shipped on July 28, 2026, three weeks after the patch that most outlets called the final hotfix ever. Bungie confirmed it on the Destiny Server and Update Status page, listing background maintenance on July 27 and the update itself the following day.

It was small. No patch notes were published, and the only stated change was a display fix for expansion pricing in the game. But it exists, it downloaded to your console, and it means the patch pipeline never fully closed.

More importantly, changes have continued to land since then without any version number attached at all. That's the part worth understanding, because it changes how you keep track of your own game.

Update 9.7.0 - June 9, 2026

The last content update, and by a wide margin the largest of the five. Bungie's official support guide confirms that everything present as of Update 9.5.6.3, plus everything added in 9.7.0, stays in the game from June 9 onward.

The same page carries the line that set the tone for everything since: following 9.7.0, Destiny 2 no longer receives planned live-service content updates, though Bungie may still release a hotfix for the health and stability of the game.

Pantheon and Sparrow Racing League both arrived here as permanent additions. Guardian Games, Solstice, Festival of the Lost and The Dawning were all retired, with some of their rewards folded into the Monument of Guardian Tenets and Eververse.

Update 9.7.0.1 - June 16, 2026

The first post-Monument hotfix, and a longer list than the "we're winding down" framing suggested. The standout fix was the Shattered Throne four-piece set bonus Truth to Power, which had been increasing the damage players took rather than reducing it.

Exotic armor acquired before Monument of Triumph was also shipping with less mod energy than intended, which the patch corrected. Master Conquest: Conductor's Keep was re-enabled after a spawn point fix.

Update 9.7.0.2 - June 23, 2026

Mostly exploit closures, aimed at damage strategies that were trivialising boss encounters. The side effect players actually felt was administrative: as part of a fix preventing duplicate artifact perks, every artifact in the game had its selected perks wiped.

Bungie still flags this on its known issues page. If you haven't logged in since late June, check your artifact before you queue into anything serious.

Update 9.7.0.3 - July 7, 2026

The patch nearly every article calls the final one. Reputation gains from Vanguard and Crucible Ops completions went up. Meltdown was re-enabled in all Crucible playlists after several out of bounds exploits were sealed. Trials flawless chest rewards were corrected.

The headline change was Divinity. Players had found they could apply its cage to Insurrection Prime in Pantheon and deal damage outside the intended phase. Rather than fix the interaction, Bungie's 9.7.0.3 notes state that Divinity and any damage applied to its cage no longer damage Insurrection Prime at any point in the encounter.

That distinction matters, and it's the clearest illustration of how the final patches work. The exploit and the legitimate use of the weapon were removed together, because a cleaner fix would have taken development time that no longer exists.

Update 9.7.0.4 - July 28, 2026

Small, silent, and almost entirely unreported. Bungie published no patch notes. The only advance notice came from the Destiny 2 Team ahead of the download, describing short downtime, background maintenance, and a minor display fix for expansion pricing so that returning and new players weren't misled by incorrect in-game listings.

There is no reason to think this one changed your builds. There is every reason to note that it happened, because the widely repeated claim that 9.7.0.3 closed the book is now demonstrably wrong.

Why the "final hotfix ever" headlines are still everywhere

The July 7 framing wasn't invented by anyone. Bungie's own community manager had spent weeks signalling that the team was entering its last string of hotfixes, and that support would narrow to emergency intervention only. When 9.7.0.3 landed with a farewell tone in the notes, the interpretation was reasonable.

What that framing missed is the distinction between two different things: content and balance patches, which genuinely ended, and maintenance and server operations, which have not. Bungie never said the second category was finished.

The sign-off in the 9.7.0 patch notes made the distinction itself. The team described 9.7.0 as the final major patch while noting in the same breath that a few maintenance patches and smaller hotfixes would still follow. The support guide has repeated the point in plain language ever since.

So the accurate version is narrower than either headline. No more balance passes, no more quality of life work, no more content. Small maintenance patches and server-side intervention are still live, and they are still changing what you can equip.

Server-side disables are the real patch channel now

This is the part that no longer shows up in patch notes, because there are no patch notes to show up in.

Since 9.7.0.4, according to the Destiny 2 Team's own posts as archived by community patch note trackers, at least three changes have been pushed without a version number:

  • The Cyberserpent Null four-piece Gambit set bonus was disabled in Crucible Ops playlists, Iron Banner included, after players found a way to spawn near-infinite Special ammo. It still functions in PvE.

  • The Europa four-piece set bonus was disabled in Crucible environments, because it was granting Frost Armor at effectively all times rather than only after a period out of combat. It also still functions in PvE.

  • The map Disjunction was pulled from Iron Banner over Fortress zone placement issues, then removed from additional Crucible playlists. It remains accessible in Private Matches.

Read those together and a pattern emerges. When something breaks now, the response is not a fix. It's removal, usually scoped to PvP, usually permanent, and usually announced once on social media and nowhere else.

If you build for Crucible, that pattern is your new patch cycle. A set bonus you rely on can stop working between sessions with no download and no notes.

Crucible standoff

The disabled items page won't tell you what's disabled

Here's the practical trap. Bungie maintains a Destiny 2 Disabled Items list in its help centre, and it's the page most players would think to check.

As of August 6, 2026, that page states there are currently no disabled items in Destiny 2. That is technically correct and practically misleading. Nothing has been fully disabled as an item, which is the specific thing that page tracks. Set bonuses switched off inside particular activity types don't meet its definition, and neither does a map pulled from a playlist.

So the official page says everything works, while three separate things have been switched off in Crucible since late July.

The page itself points to where the real information goes: the Destiny 2 Team accounts on Bluesky and X, and the team's channel in the official Destiny Discord. Those are now the primary record. Treat the disabled items list as a check on hard item bans only, not as a status board for your loadout.

Bungie's known issues list froze on July 7, and that list is now permanent

Bungie's Known Issues and Vital Information page carries a last updated date of July 7, 2026, matching the final hotfix.

Under the Monument of Triumph heading, it still lists dozens of open issues across weapons, armor, abilities, artifacts, quests, triumphs and cosmetics. Not resolved. Open, documented, and now effectively frozen in place.

A representative sample of what stays:

  • Dawn Chorus does not increase scorch stacks, damage or ignition damage applied by the Praxic Blade

  • Mantle of Battle Harmony stops granting its weapon surge bonus while a Solar super is equipped

  • The Creeping Chill artifact perk does not grant Frost Armor to allies

  • The Kinetic Rupture artifact perk does not reliably stun Unstoppable champions

  • The Forerunner catalyst grenade does not grant a Gunpowder Gamble charge on Prismatic

  • Using a Finisher during Spectral Blades cancels the super and drains remaining energy

  • The Pit of Heresy class item does not drop from the final encounter

Bungie's own entry on armor set bonuses is the one to read closely: the page states that various new armor set bonuses are under investigation for not functioning as intended. That investigation has no team behind it now.

The practical read is straightforward. If a perk, aspect or set bonus feels wrong in your build, check this page before you spend hours diagnosing it. There's a reasonable chance it's a documented bug that will outlive the game.

What Bungie has committed to keeping running

The support guide is specific about what survives the wind-down, and it's more than the headlines suggest.

  • All content present as of Update 9.5.6.3 plus everything added in 9.7.0 stays available

  • Monument of Triumph, its new title and its ornament set remain in the game indefinitely

  • Pantheon and Sparrow Racing League are permanent additions

  • The Triumphant Rewards Pass has no end date and keeps offering free and premium rewards

  • Trials of Osiris runs every weekend except when Iron Banner is active, and Iron Banner runs every four weeks from reset to reset

  • The Destiny 2 API and the official Companion App continue to be available and supported

That last point does more work than people realise. Third-party tools that depend on the API keep functioning, which means loadout managers, triumph trackers and vendor checkers stay usable. For a game with no in-game changelog anymore, external tooling becomes the way you notice things moved.

How to track changes now that patch notes have stopped

Four habits worth adopting if you're still playing regularly.

Follow the Destiny 2 Team accounts directly. Disables and map removals are announced there first and, increasingly, only there. Nothing routes to a news article any more because nobody is writing weekly patch coverage for a game with no patches.

Check the server and update status page before assuming a download is cosmetic. It's the only place that logged 9.7.0.4 in a structured way, and it will log the next one the same way.

Bookmark the known issues page as a diagnostic tool rather than a roadmap. Nothing on it is getting fixed, which makes it a reliable list of things not to waste time troubleshooting.

Verify PvP set bonuses after any gap in play. Crucible is where the server-side disables have concentrated, and a bonus that worked last month may be silently switched off in Iron Banner this month.

Key takeaways

  • Update 9.7.0.3 on July 7, 2026 was not the last patch. Update 9.7.0.4 shipped July 28 with no patch notes and a minor expansion pricing display fix.

  • Content and balance work ended with 9.7.0 on June 9, 2026. Maintenance patches and server-side changes did not.

  • At least three server-side disables have landed since 9.7.0.4, all affecting Crucible: two armor set bonuses and one map.

  • Bungie's official disabled items list currently shows nothing, because it only tracks full item bans. It won't reflect set bonuses switched off in specific activities.

  • The known issues page froze on July 7 with dozens of open bugs still listed. Use it to identify problems that will never be fixed.

  • The Destiny 2 API and Companion App remain supported, so third-party tracking tools continue to work.

Frequently asked questions

Was 9.7.0.3 the last Destiny 2 patch?

No. Update 9.7.0.4 was released on July 28, 2026, three weeks later. Bungie published no patch notes for it and listed only a display fix for expansion pricing. Most coverage still describes 9.7.0.3 as the final hotfix because it was reported that way on July 7.

What was the final Destiny 2 content update?

Update 9.7.0, released June 9, 2026, which added Monument of Triumph, Pantheon, Sparrow Racing League and the reworked Director. Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 no longer receives planned live-service content updates after that release.

Is Bungie still patching Destiny 2?

In a limited sense, yes. Balance passes, content and quality of life work have ended. Small maintenance patches and server-side changes are still being deployed, and Bungie's support guide states a hotfix may still be released for the health and stability of the game.

Why did Bungie disable Divinity instead of fixing it?

Because a targeted fix would have required development time the team no longer has. The 9.7.0.3 notes confirm Divinity and damage applied to its cage now do nothing to Insurrection Prime at any point in the encounter, removing the exploit and the legitimate strategy together.

Are the Destiny 2 servers shutting down?

Bungie has not announced a shutdown date. The game remains online and playable, with all content available as of Update 9.5.6.3 plus everything added in 9.7.0. What ended was live-service development, not the servers.

Do the Destiny 2 API and Companion App still work?

Yes. Bungie's support guide states both continue to be available and supported after Update 9.7.0, and that developers can keep using the GitHub developer community for support. Third-party tools built on the API remain functional.

Where can I see what's currently disabled in Destiny 2?

Not the disabled items list, which only covers full item bans and currently shows no entries. Recent set bonus and map disables have been announced through the Destiny 2 Team's social accounts and Discord channel, which are now the most reliable record.

Will the bugs on Bungie's known issues list ever be fixed?

Almost certainly not. The page was last updated on July 7, 2026 and still lists dozens of open issues, including several armor set bonuses under investigation. With no active development team assigned, those entries should be treated as permanent behaviour.

Will Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris keep running?

Yes. Trials of Osiris is available every weekend except when Iron Banner is active, and Iron Banner runs every four weeks from the weekly reset to the following reset. Access requirements including SMS verification are unchanged.

Will there be more Destiny 2 expansions or seasons?

No. Bungie confirmed that planned live-service content updates ended with 9.7.0. The Triumphant Rewards Pass has no end date and continues offering rewards, but no further expansions, seasons or story content are planned.
