Destiny 2 The Collection Buyers Guide: Price & Contents
Destiny 2 The Collection brings years of expansions, dungeons, raids and other content into one purchase.
Destiny 2 has never been easy to buy. Nine years of expansions, packs, dungeon keys and passes left new players staring at a storefront with no obvious entry point, and the wrong purchase meant paying twice for content you already owned. The Collection is meant to end that. This Destiny 2 The Collection buyers guide covers what it costs, what it includes, and who should skip it.

What The Collection costs right now
On Steam, Destiny 2: The Collection is $69.60, listed at 52% off. We checked this on September 4, 2026.
That 52% is worth understanding, because it is not a sale. Steam prices bundles against the sum of their parts, and the individual items in this bundle come to $144.91. The discount is the gap between those two numbers, so it is the standing price rather than a countdown deal you need to rush.
You may still see guides quoting around $25 for The Collection. That figure was reported as a June launch promotion and is not what the storefront charges today. Console pricing moves independently of Steam, so check your own platform rather than trusting any single quoted number, including ours.
One pricing feature works in your favour immediately, with no need to wait for a sale: Steam's Complete the Set discount. If you already own some of the included expansions, Steam recalculates the bundle price against what is missing from your library. The Steam bundle page also notes that when this happens, the Dungeon Keys are still granted, whether or not you owned them already.
Steam prices the bundle against the sum of its parts, which is where the 52 percent figure comes from.
Everything included in The Collection
The bundle covers five paid expansions and four content packs, plus the dungeons, raids and Reward Passes attached to them.
Expansions: The Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape, The Edge of Fate, Renegades
Content packs: Forsaken Pack, Shadowkeep Pack, Beyond Light Pack, Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack
Raids: Last Wish, Garden of Salvation, Deep Stone Crypt, Vow of the Disciple, Root of Nightmares, Salvation's Edge, The Desert Perpetual
Dungeons: Shattered Throne, Pit of Heresy, Grasp of Avarice, Duality, Spire of the Watcher, Ghosts of the Deep, Warlord's Ruin, Vesper's Host, Sundered Doctrine, Equilibrium
Reward Passes: Reclamation, Ash & Iron, Lawless, Triumphant
Two points are worth clarifying, because both are commonly confused. Equilibrium is Renegades content rather than The Edge of Fate content, and it is reached through the Lawless Frontier. The Shadowkeep and Beyond Light entries are packs rather than expansions, because their campaigns are already free for everyone. Those two packs sell you the exotics, dungeons and raids attached to those releases, not the story.
What the individual pieces actually add up to
Buyers guides commonly claim that buying everything separately would run you $200 to $250. We could not trace that number to a storefront or to Bungie, so here is what Steam actually charges for the parts.
Steam itemises the bundle at $144.91 across nine paid entries. Here is that breakdown in full:
Forsaken Pack: $9.99
Shadowkeep Pack: $9.99
Beyond Light Pack: $9.99
Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack: $14.99
The Witch Queen: $19.99
Lightfall: $19.99
The Final Shape: $19.99
The Edge of Fate: $19.99
Renegades: $19.99
Dungeon Key Pack: No additional cost
Those entries total $144.91. Against the $69.60 bundle price, that is $75.31 saved, which matches the figure Steam prints on the page.
There is a wrinkle in Steam's favour, though. The four Reward Passes are part of the bundle description but do not appear as priced line items in that $144.91, because they are normally bought in-game with Silver rather than from the storefront.
The true sum of parts is therefore higher than $144.91. We cannot put an exact figure on it without pricing Silver, so we would rather show the arithmetic we can verify than repeat a total we cannot.
What you already get without paying
Destiny 2 remains free to play, and the free tier is larger than most guides admit. Per Bungie's available content guide, free players get:
The New Light questline and every destination for patrols, public events and Lost Sectors
The Arc, Solar, Void and Stasis subclasses
The full Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaigns
The introductory mission of all five paid campaigns
Three raids: Vault of Glass, King's Fall and Crota's End
One dungeon: Prophecy
Crucible, Gambit and Dares of Eternity
The free track of Reward Passes
Note the subclass line carefully, because this is a common error. Stasis is free and comes from Beyond Light. Strand is not free, it comes from Lightfall, and Prismatic is not free either, it comes from The Final Shape. Guides that list Stasis and Strand together as free entitlements have simply mixed up which expansion delivered which power.
Two access rules also catch people out. Trials of Osiris needs SMS verification on your account and ownership of The Edge of Fate, Renegades or The Collection. Iron Banner is open to free accounts but still requires SMS verification.
The Monument of Triumph became the game's central progression hub in the final update.
How dungeon access really works
The Collection is often described as including ten dungeon keys. That is not how access works, and the two official sources do not agree with each other.
The Steam listing shows ten dungeons but flags only six of them as key-granted: Duality, Spire of the Watcher, Ghosts of the Deep, Warlord's Ruin, Vesper's Host and Sundered Doctrine. Steam attributes the other four to the content that contains them, so Shattered Throne arrives with the Forsaken Pack, Pit of Heresy with Shadowkeep, Grasp of Avarice with the 30th Anniversary Pack, and Equilibrium with Renegades.
Bungie's own support pages list nine dungeon keys instead, and that list includes Prophecy, which the same documentation elsewhere describes as free for all players. Bungie's Update 9.7.0 support guide states the underlying rule plainly: raid and dungeon access requires ownership of the corresponding expansion or a Dungeon Key. Two mechanisms, not one.
For a buyer, none of this changes the outcome, since The Collection grants access to all ten paid dungeons either way. It matters if you are buying piecemeal instead, because "which key do I need" is often the wrong question. Sometimes the answer is an expansion.
What The Collection does not include
The name oversells it slightly. The Collection is everything currently purchasable, not everything Destiny 2 ever shipped.
Bungie's documentation flags that some Light and Darkness Saga content is not currently available, which is the Destiny Content Vault. The original Red War campaign and the Forsaken campaign are gone. The Forsaken Pack in this bundle preserves Last Wish and Shattered Throne and a batch of exotics, but not the story those activities were built around.
Four seasonal events have also been retired: Guardian Games, Solstice, Festival of the Lost and The Dawning. The events themselves are not coming back, though their weapons and cosmetics stay available year round from the Monument of Triumph's Tenet vendors, bought with Legendary Marks.
If you care about narrative continuity, know this going in. You are buying the later stretch of a story whose opening chapters were removed from the game.
Two things to check before you buy
Your purchase is locked to one platform
This is the most expensive mistake available to you, and it rarely gets a mention in buyers guides.
Destiny 2 expansions do not transfer between platforms. Cross Save moves your Guardians, gear and progress across PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Epic and the Microsoft Store, but it does not move purchase entitlements. Buy The Collection on PlayStation and later move to PC, and you own nothing on PC.
Silver does not merge across platforms either, though Reward Passes do travel with the characters they were redeemed on. Bungie's Cross Save guide covers the mechanics.
Buy on the platform you expect to keep playing on, not the one that happens to be cheapest this week.
The install is much larger than the storefront says
Storefront listings still quote a 105 GB minimum, a figure dated to 2020. Bungie's platform storage requirements tell a different story.
PlayStation 5: 179.23 GB file size, 179.23 GB needed for pre-load install
PlayStation 4: 178.79 GB file size, 235.32 GB needed for pre-load install
Xbox Series X|S: 195.36 GB file size, 195.36 GB needed for pre-load install
Xbox One: 183.94 GB file size, 183.94 GB needed for pre-load install
Steam: 180.90 GB file size, 353.00 GB needed for pre-load install
Epic Games Store: 180.65 GB file size, 352.56 GB needed for pre-load install
Microsoft Store: 181.76 GB file size, 181.76 GB needed for pre-load install
Steam players in particular should note that pre-load installation can temporarily need up to 353 GB, because the current install and the incoming update coexist during the process. Check your drive before you check out.
Install sizes run near 180 GB on most platforms, well above the 105 GB figure storefronts still quote.
Is it worth it for you
New players
Play the free version first. The free tier gives you the gunplay, four subclasses including Stasis, two full campaigns and three raids, which is more than enough to learn whether the game holds you.
If it does, The Collection is the efficient move. The Witch Queen and The Final Shape campaigns carry most of the value on their own, and buying them individually at $19.99 each already covers more than half the bundle price before you count anything else.
Returning players
The answer depends on where you stopped. If you left before The Witch Queen, you are missing weapon crafting, Prismatic, and several years of raids and dungeons, and the bundle is straightforwardly the cheapest route back.
If you left after The Final Shape, you are mainly missing The Edge of Fate and Renegades. Run the Complete the Set price on Steam and compare it against buying those two at $19.99 each before committing.
Veterans
Probably not, and the Reward Pass detail is the reason. The final Triumphant Rewards Pass was granted automatically to anyone who already owned Renegades, the Year of Prophecy, or the Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition. If that is you, The Collection's Reward Pass component adds nothing, and you are likely paying for a handful of packs you could buy for $9.99 to $14.99 each.
Does it matter that Destiny 2 is finished?
Update 9.7.0 shipped on June 9, 2026, and Bungie has confirmed the game will no longer receive planned live-service content updates. No new expansions, no new seasons. Bungie has said it may still release hotfixes for the health and stability of the game, so "finished" is not quite the same as "abandoned."
Servers stay online, all existing content stays playable, and the Destiny 2 API and Companion App remain supported, which matters if you rely on third-party inventory tools.
The honest read is that this cuts both ways. You are buying a fixed, complete product rather than a subscription to future content, and the price reflects that. Nothing you buy will be power-crept by next season's release, and no timed content will expire out from under you.
Against that, the population is declining, matchmade activities will get quieter over time, and organising raid groups for older content depends on a shrinking community. If your interest is campaigns, solo play and dungeons, that barely registers. If you wanted a living raid scene, weigh it seriously.
The Collection unlocks seven raids, though older ones increasingly depend on finding a group.
Key takeaways
The Collection is $69.60 on Steam as of September 4, 2026, against $144.91 itemised. The 52% is a standing bundle discount, not a limited sale.
The widely quoted $25 price was a June launch promotion and is no longer current.
Free players get four subclasses, two campaigns, three raids, Prophecy, Crucible and Gambit. Try that before buying.
Access to the ten paid dungeons comes through two mechanisms, expansions and Dungeon Keys, not ten keys.
Stasis is free and comes from Beyond Light. Strand and Prismatic are paid.
Purchases are locked to the platform you buy them on. Cross Save moves characters, not entitlements.
Budget roughly 180 GB installed, and up to 353 GB temporarily on Steam during a pre-load.
Veterans who own Renegades or Year of Prophecy already received the Triumphant Rewards Pass automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Is Destiny 2: The Collection worth buying?
For new and lapsed players, yes. At $69.60 it undercuts the $144.91 sum of its parts, and The Witch Queen and The Final Shape alone cost more than half the bundle price if bought separately. Veterans who already own Renegades should check their Complete the Set price on Steam and compare it against buying the missing packs individually.
How much does Destiny 2: The Collection cost?
It is $69.60 on Steam as of September 4, 2026, shown as 52% off the $144.91 combined price of the individual items. Console pricing varies by storefront and moves independently. If you already own some expansions on Steam, Complete the Set pricing will reduce the total automatically.
Does The Collection include everything in Destiny 2?
It includes everything currently purchasable, which is not the same thing. Content moved into the Destiny Content Vault, including the Red War and Forsaken campaigns, is not in the bundle because it is not in the game. Four seasonal events have also been retired, though their rewards stay purchasable year round.
Do I need The Collection to play Destiny 2?
No. Destiny 2 is free to play, and the free tier includes the New Light questline, the Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaigns, four subclasses, three raids and the Prophecy dungeon. The Collection unlocks the paid campaigns, seven raids, ten dungeons and Trials of Osiris access.
Which subclasses are free in Destiny 2?
Arc, Solar, Void and Stasis are available to all players. Strand requires Lightfall and Prismatic requires The Final Shape, so both are paid. Strand is sometimes listed incorrectly as a free unlock.
Does The Collection include all the dungeon keys?
It grants access to all ten paid dungeons, but not all of that access comes from keys. Steam flags six dungeons as key-granted, while the other four unlock through the expansion or pack that contains them. Bungie's support documentation lists the keys differently, so the two official sources do not match.
Will my purchase transfer if I switch platforms?
No. Destiny 2 expansions and packs are tied to the platform you bought them on, and Cross Save does not move them. Your Guardians, gear and progress travel freely, but you would need to repurchase content to access it on a new platform.
Is Destiny 2 still getting updates?
No new expansions or seasons are planned after Update 9.7.0, which released on June 9, 2026. Bungie has said it may still ship hotfixes for game health and stability. Servers remain online and all existing content stays playable.
How much storage does Destiny 2 need?
Around 180 GB installed on most platforms, rising to 195.36 GB on Xbox Series X and S. Steam and Epic can temporarily require roughly 353 GB during a pre-load installation. The 105 GB figure still shown on some storefronts dates from 2020 and is badly out of date.
Should I buy The Collection or individual expansions?
Buy individually if you own most of the catalogue already, since single packs run $9.99 to $14.99 and expansions $19.99. Add up what you are missing and buy the bundle only if that total exceeds the bundle price. On Steam, Complete the Set pricing does this comparison for you at checkout.
What should I play first after buying?
Start with The Witch Queen campaign, which is the most self-contained and the strongest introduction to the game's storytelling. Move to The Final Shape next for Prismatic, then The Edge of Fate and Renegades for current-era gear and Trials access. The free Monument of Triumph content is worth touching early because it funds cosmetics through Legendary Marks.
